More Than a Half Million Views!
When I wrote my first post in January, addressing the more or less corrupt “you bought the election so you get to tell the city council what to do” note to megadonors from Tim Ceis, I had no idea that a newsletter with a dad-jokey eponymous title would become one of my primary ways of volunteering.
I’ve so enjoyed getting to wrestle with difficult issues in Seattle.
Most important, I am sure you know by now that I think it is extremely important to reject many of the vacuous premises offered to us by people who want to avoid taxes (and the occasional credulous journalist who perpetuates them) and to shape the local narrative on terms that better reflect reality.
While I’ve certainly received some wildly vitriolic feedback, it’s been mostly a wonderful, positive journey. I’ve enjoyed the substantive critiques and thoughtful pushback, and of course the warm support and cheers as well.
I can’t believe how many people (including politicians, policy experts, journalists and government employees) have stopped me in public spaces to tell me they are readers. While this mostly reflects the fact that I ran for office, it has happened in surprising places too (most notably, in the rotunda in Olympia!). It is genuinely shocking that my pieces have been viewed over half a million times, for, my dashboard tells me, about a third of a million reads.
Anyway, thanks for being on this journey with me!
It has been difficult to fit in with work, I’ll admit, and I don’t know if I’ll keep it up, or if I will eventually offer a paid version, or what the future holds.
But for now, I’ll keep at it!
With affection,
Ron
PS. It would mean a lot to me if you share this with friends!
