Happy Labor Day

Except to the Anti-Union Conservatives on City Council

As I frequently mention, the current majority on the Seattle City Council has an economic agenda that far to the right of anything resembling the Democratic Party’s agenda, and is to the right of the vast majority of Americans, who in both parties support higher minimum wages, unionization, and worker’s rights.

I took a few minutes this holiday and gathered some quotes from major labor leaders to remind you how far these people who call themselves “moderates” are from the mainstream:

Adam Glickman, Secretary Treasurer of SEIU 775, Representing 50,000 care workers,

-regarding actions by the current Seattle city council to cut wages for delivery drivers.

MLK Labor Council: Includes most of the unions in King County, representing almost every unionized industry.

–regarding the Seattle City Council’s attempt to cut gig workers’ minimum wage.

–and regarding The Seattle City Council’s attempt to roll back ten year old minimum wage legislation for tipped workers.

UFCW: Representing over 50,000 Grocery, Retail and Health Care Workers, 

-regarding the same rollback of decade-old minimum wage legislation. 

-and regarding the Seattle City Council’s deliberate attempt to keep a citizen initiative off the ballot in November that will fund affordable and workforce housing with progressive taxes.
