As our community continues to grieve and reel from the recent deaths of three boys in area schools, Ali-Rohani, Cristopher Zelaya, and Amarr Murphy-Paine, I wanted to remind readers about a guest posting I had a few months ago from Gregory Engel on a program that is educating kids in schools about firearm safety. They have worked with 6000 kids so far.
Although I don’t have any indication that this kind of education would have prevented these particular tragic deaths, we do know that the public health approach (remember the swiss cheese analogy from discussions about Covid?) is needed for reducing gun deaths—and educational programs like this are one effective layer of defense. Other layers are needed, of course, but we should not neglect any part of the solution.
If you have any connection to high schools, please use it to get students access to this vital information.
Here again is the post.
